The Viper 8704 series of boards is high-performance, low-cost digitalsignal processing hardware. Viper 8704/30 is a signal processing engineusing a 68030 CPU and four VECTOR SIGNAL PROCESSORS. The single VME card(6U) is capable of very high speed signal processing concurrently with68030 operation. I/O bandwidth on the P2 connector can be maintained at100 Mbps. Viper is capable of being a master, slave, or system controlleron the VMEBus. The board utilizes DVAA (Dynamically Variable ArbitrationArchitecture) for highest possible performance. Software uses a high-level vector oriented instruction set. An FFT takes three instructions(1. Load data; 2. Perform FFT; and 3. Store results). Typical performancefor a 1024 point Floating complex FFT normal data in/out including boardI/O is under 750 us.
